Our History in Houston, TX

As with most historical tales, this one has its share of twists and turns including how a barbecue joint with deep African American roots wound up with an Italian name. It all started back in 1935 when the husband and wife team, John and Leila Davis, opened their modest BBQ restaurant called Shepherd Drive BBQ.

"The Contender" BBQ Beef Shank

Crafted by our renowned pitmaster, Eudel Hernandez, "The Contender" BBQ Beef Shank is a testament to Pizzitola's dedication to authentic BBQ artistry. This majestic, bone-in beef shank begins its journey weighing between 3 1/2 to 4 pounds, including its commanding central bone. After a meticulous 12-hour smoke, it emerges with a dark, burnished hue, weighing in at about 2½ pounds of pure, succulent meat.

Designed to satiate the appetites of two to four BBQ enthusiasts, "The Contender" is a limited delight. With only five to six available daily.
